My mini survAIval insight of the week: “If you tolerate this, then your children will be next”

This past week I’ve watched a video of Mo Gawdat (Former chief business officer for Google X) on AI. Here are the take aways:

  • Master AI Tools Relevant to Your Field: Those who learn to leverage AI for enhanced productivity will likely outpace those who don’t. Choose a few tools that are most applicable to your work—whether in marketing, design, or content creation—and set aside time weekly to improve your skills.

  • Promote Ethical Usage of AI: AI is a reflection of our values. By making ethical choices in AI application—such as avoiding manipulative or deceptive uses—you contribute to shaping a healthier AI future. Consider each AI use as an example that these tools can 'learn' from us.

  • Build Human Connections: In a world with AI-augmented interactions, real human connection will hold even greater value. Foster relationships, collaborate, and practice empathy in your communications. Those who blend AI productivity with authentic human touch will be the most resilient in this new landscape.

The only way those machines can learn ethics is by observing us humans using them in an ethical way, how we treat ourselves basically.

The beautiful song by the Manic Street Preachers (“If you tolerate this, then your children will be next,”) readily comes to mind.

Stay Kind.

The chart of the week: AI integration into societal institutions EU survey

On Monday, IE University's CGC released its yearly European Tech Insights report, examining how generative AI is increasingly being woven into society's core institutions.

Interesting insights:

  • Selective Trust in AI: Europeans favor AI for efficiency in public services but prefer human oversight in sensitive decisions like parole or visas.

  • Generational Openness: Younger Europeans (18-34) are more comfortable with AI in politics, even open to AI voting on their behalf. Are we going to end up with an AI president?

  • Job Security Concerns: High support for AI (interestingly in police and military operations) is tempered by a strong desire for job-protective laws, signaling caution toward automation’s impact on employment.
