My mini survAIval insight of the week. Jobless society and purpose.

As Elon Musk says, “jobs are going to be a thing of the past.”

But jobs provide people with more than just money. Income isn’t enough to guarantee their well-being.

What is going to happen if the day arrives where we don’t have “anything to fight for"?

The growing field of positive psychology identifies a number of factors that boost people’s sense of well-being and purpose and found that ‘some’ jobs can provide many of them, for example:

  • a social network of friends and colleagues

  • a healthy and virtuous lifestyle

  • respect, self-esteem, self-efficacy and a pleasurable sense of “flow” stemming from doing something ones is good at

  • a sense of being needed and making a difference

  • a sense of meaning from being part of and serving something larger than oneself

To create a low-employment society that flourishes rather than degenerates into self-destructive behaviour, we need to understand how to help such well-being-induced activities thrive.

The chart of the week: Generative AI adoption surpasses early PC and internet usage, study finds

1. Generative AI is already more widely adopted than PCs were at this stage

2. Generative AI is being used by everyone—not just tech workers

3. AI Is already saving time on a variety of tasks

This could be seen as proof that AI isn't only a passing trend. The sooner we start being curious and involved in this new era, the better off!
