My conclusions on the Apple Vision Pro
Is it going to go mainstream?
As you are well aware, last week I got my hands on a real Apple Vision Pro.
Let’s finish my thoughts and impressions about this remarkable device!
And as always, at the bottom, you have a selection of the news of the week to stay updated and spark your curiosity, focusing mostly on the new Antropic’s LLM update, Claude 3, as well as cool tools and lessons that can enhance your life.
That’s damn right!
My conclusions on the Apple Vision Pro
The place where I saw it shining and that I think will make these goggles mainstream was live events.
The feeling of being there.
That was what sold me the Apple Vision Pro (AVP) and the new adventures we will experience in the future. That was something I never felt before, and this is what is going to make virtual reality go mainstream.
And it is only the beginning, and for being their first model, it looks incredibly good. I can't come up with enough ideas about how this technology will blow our minds in the future.
Augmented and virtual reality have been around for a while, but they don't feel futuristic or mainstream enough. This is what Apple just did: make it feel like the future, even a familiar future.
On the other hand, it is normal to have problems seeing the real useful use cases of augmented reality. I do. I can see it in driving and moving around or in situations where we would need contextual information, like warnings of potential risks walking down a street.
But the word that I’ve been repeating the most in these emails is experience. This is what I think the AVP offers.
Will these experiences be the new thing we won't accept to live without in the future? Making us even more isolated, instead of a promised social device Apple is trying to sell us?
I believe that Apple will figure out how to make this device indispensable for the consumer, like they want to portray in the commercial and what happened with the iPhone.
The Future of the APV
Even though the virtual reality experience is what will make people buy the AVP at first, augmented reality continues to be the center of focus for Apple. People interaction and social, shareable experiences are fundamental pillars of the company.
There is no doubt that this points to the future, but nobody knows if what Apple is trying to push for is going to be the end use of it. Technology usage morphs depending on how people use it. Sometimes, inventors have a different idea about what the creation is meant to be used for, and what it ends up being used for is a completely different thing. Nobel didn't create dynamite to blow up people, he did it for construction purposes and infrastructure projects.
Apple is aligning itself with the evolving lifestyle trends post-COVID, such as remote work and digital nomadism. With lighter, more advanced models on the horizon, widespread adoption seems inevitable. I can see people jumping in and using it everywhere, carrying around their digital houses and offices with them.
I believe that what a big corporation like Apple has in mind will translate to the new future we are going to live in. I can see how working with laptops and physical devices will feel primitive sooner than we expect. In time, mobile phones will disappear, and we will enter an AR/VR digital world, thanks to lighter glasses, contact lenses, or chips.
Remember, society is signaling a more efficient and comfortable way of living, and Apple is showing us what the future will be. They are showing us a new picture of our futuristic efficient and minimal new lives (does this sound like Apple's main values???)
It is scary how a tech company or big corporation like Apple can shape the future. I didn't see it coming with the iPhone; now I can see it clearly in retrospective, and this feels like the next step. Before, wars, nations, governments, and social movements would shape the future; now it's time for tech companies.
As technology becomes more accessible and versatile, mainstream adoption of these glasses is inevitable. The allure of experiencing virtual moments will probably be irresistible to many.
In conclusion, while the AVP may seem niche initially, its potential to redefine how we experience reality is undeniable.
Thanks so much for your time.
See you next week!
