This movie has blown my mind from an artistic perspective and ignited some insights I would like to share with you. Hopefully it will spark your curiosity and make you want to go see this film as it was intended to be seen: on the big screen with badass sound, so we don't forget why cinema was created in the first place.

Because I want you to go to the cinema, we are not going to talk about the plot or how delightful it looks; we are going to talk about:

Will Dune save modern Hollywood in the middle of an AI video era?

I don't know if you are aware of this, but OpenAI's Sora AI video will forever change art, creativity, artistic industry and culture, and how we perceive reality and society.

• OpenAI's Sora revolutionizes storytelling. Open AI gave access to select artists, creators, directors, etc. and let them create short movies and videos with AI.

Will an AI movie ever compete with something like Dune? Real locations, real sets, practical effects, real humans…

Big, greedy production companies will adopt AI to reduce expenses, and blockbusters will start to look the same everywhere because these AI video models are trained with similar databases and use the same videos. Well, in fact, they already look the same. They don't want to expose themselves to the cost and risk of letting authors make crazy big movies and show the big studios what they are capable of.

Can AI help the artist with that? 

As production companies like A24 demonstrate, there's a hunger for films that transcend the typical formula, offering hope for a revitalized cinema that embraces both technological advancements and artistic integrity. 

Movies like Dune are the epitome of it, where artistic vision blends with a huge production budget to create incredible stuff that makes you leave your home and share a social experience.

With the emergence of AI in video production, authors will be able to create the movies they have in their heads and prove their real potential. This could open a door of opportunities in the new cinema industry.

The messianic movie

I am calling Dune a cultural masterpiece because:

1- It is a refreshing break from all these shitty Marvel movies that we are seeing. Its contemplative pace and depth offer a counterpoint to the typical blockbuster in a short-span attention culture.

It feels almost messianic that this movie has come at this specific time. 2024 will be a year that we will remember as the year when AI video generation changed the world forever. Now, in the middle of this storm, a delayed movie because of COVID gives us hope, underscoring the enduring power of storytelling. Beautiful. 

2-  It can be the next big trilogy adaptation based on a very important book like the cultural phenomena of The Lord of the Rings, even if they are different in tone.

3- It somehow resonates with the moment we are leaving; political tensions, lack of resources, climate change, AND, a very interesting thing related to AI that I am not going to say in here 😉 

4- In our current era, where sharing our thoughts, values, and experiences via social media has become effortless, it's more crucial than ever to recognize how easily and freely we can influence others, for better or for worse, and to act responsibly in light of this.

Dune showed Hollywood how there is still hope to make good movies with the author’s control and vision. It is risky, but it is possible. Hopefully, AI will create more opportunities for authors to reach this level of production and create new, exciting things.
